Aberdeen Art Gallery - Memorial Court

In 1925 a further extension to the Aberdeen Art Gallery building was designed by A. Marshall Mackenzie. This included the War Memorial and Cowdray Hall, opened by King George V and Queen Mary. Lord and Lady Cowdray donated the hall and organ, the rest of the expense being met by public contributions.

Piper Alpha memorial bannerPiper Alpha memorial banner
This banner was presented to the City of Aberdeen by the Victorian Trades Hall Council of Australia to show sympathy with the people of Aberdeen and the families of the men who were killed and injured in the Piper Alpha accident on July 6th, 1988. The banner is grey and almost square.  On it you can see an outline map of Scotland with sea birds and an oil platform. In each square you can see the name of one of the workers who died in the tragedy.
