Provost Skene's House - Costume Gallery

The Costume Gallery features examples from Aberdeen Art Gallery and Museums extensive collection of fashion, dress, accessories and textiles. The collection numbers some 15,000 individual items covering historic dress and accessories both male and female, adult and child, from the 1770s to present day. Personal accessories such as millinery, eyewear, gloves and footwear are included.

There is a group of occupational costume relating to local industries and trades, uniforms and regalia from local schools, regiments, societies and clubs, and civic robes.

Packaging and ephemera connected with local costume, fashion shops, dressmakers, tailors and milliners [e.g. hat boxes, hangers, hat stands] are also acquired, along with photographs recording local people in fashionable and occupational dress.
