Discover the Townhouse

The tower can be seen from the Castlegate. It is not open to the public. It is a rectangular tower rising to a battlement parapet enclosing a square belfry carrying a lead covered sire completed in 1630. The interior of the steeple contains an elaborate timber bell frame which was renewed in 1839. The bell was recast in 1799.

In 1616 the Tolbooth clock was on the south wall heads of the wardhouse. The existing clock dates from the early 20th century.
