1800-1900 Artistic Movements - The Glasgow Boys

In the 1880s and 90s, a small group of painters known as 'The Glasgow Boys' began to introduce a form of Impressionism into Scottish painting. They were influenced by 'French Realist' art to take ordinary, every day life as their subject matter. They rebelled against the highly finished painting of the Scottish art schools, preferring instead to concentrate on light, colour and composition.
